Charbonneau starts going over contracts on which M. TPS took kickbacks
Today begins the arduous process of revisiting no fewer than 90 sewer contracts that had been approved by former City of Montreal engineer Gilles Surprenant and for which Surprenenant accepted kickbacks or favour.
The engineer, now retired from the city, admitted last Thursday to accepting about $600 000 in total over the years from the hands of different construction industry notables.
In exchange, he inflated the value of sewer contracts and based the awarding the contracts on who paid.
Surprenant then testified that he had lost roughly half of the dirty money at the casino and finally gave the commission's investigators what he said was the remainder of his ill-gotten gains, $122 800, in cash.
