Gay couple blocked from wedding site files human rights complaint

Two New York women who say they were turned away from a potential wedding site because they are lesbian have filed a discrimination complaint. Advocates say the complaint is among the first of its kind since New York state legalized same-sex weddings last year.

Melisa Erwin and Jennie McCarthy say they filed the complaint Oct. 11 with the state Division of Human Rights after Liberty Ridge Farm told them they could not use the site for their wedding.

Co-owner Robert Gifford tells WNYT-TV that the farm has a right to choose its clientele.

The farm did not immediately return messages.
