Robberies on the elderly: police seek potential victims
September 21st Montreal police arrested four suspects connected to a wave of robberies targeting the elderly.
The suspects are two men and two women: Filip Stan, 26, Ionel Caldararu, 22, Uneria Miclescu, 22 and Mariana Sirbu, 24 years old, and who all appeared on charges of robbery, theft of less than $5000, concealment and conspiracy to commit theft in 12 cases.
They have since been released with various conditions.
The suspects allegedly stole from their victims while they were on the street, sitting on their apartment balconies or waiting at a bus stop.
One suspect, would come close to their victim and offer jewellry, often fake, and put it on the victims arm or neck. While they were doing this, a co-accomplice would steal the victim's jewellery. So far, at least 50 events have been connected to this network in the north end as well as many parts of the island of Montreal. Police say the four suspects arrested are not the only persons suspected of these thefts. The robberies continue.
If you have been a victim of theft and recognize the suspects, investigators working on these cases would like to talk to you.
You are asked to go to the police station in your area or contact 9-1-1.
