Another transit hike

Posted By: Kelly Lapare · 10/22/2012 8:38:00 PM

It looks like public transit users are going to have to dig a little deeper.

There are reports the cost of a monthly bus and metro pass is going up 3 percent as of January 2013 to around 78 dollars.

The hike is higher than the cost of living increase in Quebec, which stands at 1.9 percent.

@am Yeah, it's getting pretty bad. Years back, we were able to brag to our neighbor provinces that while our paychecks were lower than theirs, that we had one of the lowest costs of livings in North America. Now? Not so much.

My problem is that they're not giving a better service, just keep charging more and more. At least now there is metro in Laval, doesn't concern me, but it's a step to the right direction.

Another increase this year again, what happened in the last 10 years to validate this aincrease Well, the STM has now around 1 800 buses, which is 200 more then 10 years ago. We have articulated buses and a new Garage (Stinson) in construction plus 3 metros stations in Laval. which means nothing because the CAM is not accepted in Laval. You need a TRAM 3 to take the metro in Laval. Starting 2014 we will have new Azur metros to replace our old MR-63 which 50 years old. More services = more fare increase.
