One person is being air-lifted to a hospital in Edmonton after a minivan crashed into a classroom at a school in eastern Alberta.

A spokesman with the province's air ambulance service Cam Heke did not know the condition or age of the patient.

The RCMP says the van crashed into a classroom at Racette Junior High School in St. Paul, east of Edmonton, about 9:30 a.m.

Heke says there are reports of other injuries but he did not know how serious they are.

Glen Brodziak, superintendent of St. Paul Education, says the school has been evacuated and students have been sent to other schools.
