Marois questions universities' need for funding

Pauline Marois says it's legitimate to question whether universities need any more money.

At a  press conference marking the end of her party's two-day caucus, Marois said the idea of university underfunding may be a myth.

"Figures are available that allow us to question that affirmation that some have made for a long time," she said.

Universities say they're underfunded by at least 600 million dollars per year. The Marois government has recently cancelled a tuition fee freeze that was meant to fill that alleged gap.

But Marois says, considering the fact that the universities are asking for more money, it is only responsible to question the claim.

They are underfunded because you gave in to the students temper tantrums, you crazy woman! Honestly, she can't really be this idiotic, can she? "The French language is in terrible danger! These English schools don't need funding!" Ridiculous.

Makes perfect sense to me. Undercut the way universities try to get funding and then question them when they say they need more money.

I kind of expect a reversal of this policy, like so many statements by the government once the french universities start complaining.

I hope'someone from the Universities have the currage to tell her what her propaganda move will cost to the universities and they will also not shy away from explaining in no uncertain term to the red square twits what their apparent victory will cost them ... en francais svp.

She should raise tuition fees so they won't need funding.
She doesn't want the tax payer to pay: Or maybe she is looking to get guillotined.
Why are University students different tha CEGEP?

@Arthur Rosen "Why are University students different than CEGEP?"

Good question. Perhaps the universities should model their fee structure after that of CEGEPs. Students, of course, ARE taxpayers for their entire working lives, as are their parents. Tuition fees are like asking for an advance on future taxes to be rendered, except that those who can't pony up get excluded - or, if parents support their kids education, like asking those folks to pay a very substantial extra tax (even though devoting only a very small portion of the taxes they already pay to maintaining quality education would make this unnecessary). Working- and middle-class families already pay more than enough not to get stuck with an extra bill just because they want their kids to go to school, right?

C'mon now Pauline, the cost of living is going up for everyone except the schools? The students have been paying the same price for years now and you question this? Has your salary gone up? I have had my say.
