Plateau fire sends two people to hospital
It seems an apartment building fire Saturdaymorning in the Plateau weas accidental.
Two residents were taken to hospital with serious burns after flames broke out at a three-storey structure at 4441 Coloniale near Mount Royal east.
One was said to be in critical condition, but police said late in the day that they are now both out of danger.
"First arriving units confirmed there was a fire on the second floor that was spreading thru the third floor, also noticed that there was two civilians waitng for first arriving units to take care of them since they had injuires to their bodies. They were burned to their hands, arms, face and head. Rapidly, they were taken care of by our firemen and after that they were transferred to Urgence Sante paramedics", fire chief of operations Denis Deschamps told CJAD News.
The cause of the fire is not yet known.
Sun Youth and the Red Cross stepped in to help residents that were forced out by the fire.
"22 people have been helped by the Red Cross and Sun Youth. Those who cannot go back will be relocated. If they, (investigators), deem it a crime scene, that means these people have to be relocated at hotels, which the Red Cross and Sun Youth are prepared to do, but, in the meantime, what we did was we gave them coupons for meals and we gave some clothes for people to put on their backs because some of them escaped with very little", Sun Youth's Sid Stevens told CJAD News earlier in the day.
