The Quebec English School Boards Association describes a meeting with the new Education minister as a good start, that it was cordial and important get-together.

The association has a number of issues it wants the government to address, but has been told it has to wait a little while.

Association president David D'Aoust says, for starters, the association wants school board elections to be held on the same day as municipal elections.

But D'Aoust says Education minister minister Marie Malavoy told them they'll have to wait until the government outlines its agenda this coming week in the National Assembly.

D'Aoust adds there's another pressing issue.

"We don't want anymore financial compressions during the present school year. It'll penalize our students and penalize our staff", says D'Aoust.

D'Aoust also says Malavoy started the meeting by apologizing for calling English a foreign language.

"I thought that was a nice way to start, she didn't come busting in there and telling us what she was just gonna do and that was it", says D'Aoust.
