150 lose their jobs as Lasalle printing plant closes

Transcontinental Printing is closing its plant in Lasalle, throwing 150 people out of work.

The company says all affected employees have been notified and will be given severance pay and help in finding new jobs.

Transcontinental blames the closure on changes in the printing industry.

"The printing industry is undergoing a major transformation that is altering supply and demand. Given the capacity and potential of our network, we have concluded that we have excess production capacity in relation to market demand. In order for Transcontinental inc. to remain competitive in this industry under pressure and get the most out of its most efficient equipment, we have had to make the difficult decision to terminate our printing operations at LaSalle," said Marian Kerr, Senior Vice President, Retail and Newspapers - Eastern.

If any International company will make cuts it will be in Quebec first, you can be sure of that. There will be more like this to come! Quebec is not a business friendly province unless the company is from Quebec. taxes are higher here and the language laws are a real pain!
