Spectacular accident destroys restaurant terrasse in the Plateau
Two people are in hospital with serious injuries after a spectacular accident in the Plateau Mont-Royal district early Saturday morning.
Montreal police say at around 4:30 a.m., a driver travelling east on Mont-Royal Ave. lost control of his car, which then flipped over several times, and hit a tree and a lamppost before landing in a terrasse belonging to the Le Filet restaurant near the corner of de l'Esplanade.
The two occupants of the car, a man and a woman in their 20s, were later rushed to hospital. Their injuries are not considered life-threatening.
Police believe alcohol and speed may have been factors in the crash. They're not ruling out laying charges against the driver.
