Applebaum says he's best-placed to become interim mayor

Michael Applebaum says he's the best-placed person to become the interim mayor of Montreal, but he didn't make the announcement today.
Applebaum says he's been in discussions with the opposition parties, Vision Montreal and Projet Montreal, but that so far his own party — Union Montreal — hasn't gotten back to him.
City councillor Alan Desousa, speaking on CJAD this afternoon, says he doesn't recognize Applebaum anymore.
"I have nothing bad to say about Michael Applebaum. I've worked with him. I have found him to be good," he said. "It's just that I don't recognize the man who's currently there and is currently making these decisions. And it doesn't jive and it doesn't coincide with the man who I worked [...] with in the past."
The only other declared candidate is Richard Deschamps, from Union Montreal.
