Toronto's mayor to appeal after being kicked out of office

Toronto Mayor Rob Ford says he will appeal a court decision that found he broke conflict of interest rules and ordered him out of office.

Ford was accused of not declaring a conflict of interest when he participated in a council vote to recommend he repay donations that he solicited for his private football foundation using official city letterhead.

Ford tells reporters outside his office that he will fight "tooth and nail" to keep his job.

He says that if he doesn't succeed, he will run in the next municipal election.

Ontario Superior Court Justice Charles Hackland ruled this morning that Ford's actions were characterized by "ignorance of the law" and he cannot claim a slip-up or error in judgment made in good faith.

The judge disqualified Ford from running again during this term of office and put his declaration on hold for 14 days to give the city time to make plans to deal with the situation.
