DNA test cracks Railway Rapist cold case
Police in Saint-Jérôme believe a recent DNA test has allowed them to crack a cold case: a string of sexual assaults by a man who became known as the Railway Rapist.
36-year old Patrick Desjardins is now charged with attacking eight young victims in 1998 and 1999 on a bike trail alongside some train tracks in Saint-Jérôme. A DNA sample taken from one of those victims was matched to one taken from a woman who was attacked in Terrebonne just last June.
Police are looking into whether there may be more victims in places the suspect was known to frequent including Mirabel, Blainville, Two Mountains, Trois-Rivières and Quebec City.
