Video showing demonstrators stomping on Canadian flag makes rounds
A YouTube video of a group of separatist demonstrators stomping on a Canadian flag in Montreal this past weekend is making the rounds on social media sites like Facebook and Twitter.
The 90-second video, posted sometime on Saturday, shows a group of demonstrators, many waving Quebec and red-white-and-green Patriote flags, and carrying signs with the slogan "Québec, un pays", laying down a Canadian flag in the middle of a street in from of City Hall. The demonstrators cheered loudly when a car drove over it, and then several of the demonstrators proceeded to gleefully stomp on it, egged on by chants of "trample it!"
The demonstration itself wasn't a large one -- barely a few dozen were on hand for it -- but in two days, the video has received more than 11,000 views, and has generated plenty of reaction, much of it confrontational in nature, and much of it peppered with foul language.
The video is being circulated by the people who run a website called putbacktheflag.com, which aims to fight the PQ's efforts to have the flag removed from the National Assembly. Its Facebook group, 'Put Canadian Flag Back In Quebec Assembly', has close to 10,000 Likes.
