DDO drops case against hockey players

The City of Dollard-des-Ormeaux says it was all a big mistake, and has no plans to take a couple of hockey players to court again.

Last December, Pierrefonds brother Chris and Daniel Guerra were playing hockey after hours at an outdoor rink in Dollard. They were handed a ticket each, of 85 and 100 dollars.

The young men contested the fines and won their case.

But celebrations ended early, when two weeks ago, 21-year-old Chris Guerra was served a summons to appear in Quebec Superior Court next month because the city of Dollard has appealed the ruling.

However, Dollard mayor Ed Janiszewski says the case will be dropped because the employee who filed the appeal had not received the approval of council and had no authority to do so.

"We as a municipality don't want to go to Superior Court over such a minor siutation, regardless of the judge's ruling," he says.

He adds the employee who filed the appeal has been warned never to overstep his authority again.
