Couche-Tard on language black list
A big convenience store chain is in trouble with the language police.
La Presse reports that Couche-Tard was added to the OQLF black list a few days ago for not having renewed its francisation plan. Its last plan, containing objectives which were not achieved, expired more than a year ago.
The chain is one of the few big companies among the 31 entries on the black list, along with the La Senza lingerie chain and a Hilton Hotel downtown. All the rest are small businesses.
Firms on the black list cannot be awarded government contracts or get any government funding or help. Couche-Tard's addition to the list may complicate its business dealings, as the province's pension fund investor, the Caisse de Depot et Placement, is among its backers.
