Marois tells NY Quebec will be sovereign

Posted By: Canadian Press · 12/13/2012 7:10:00 PM

Premier Pauline Marois has told a U.S. foreign policy group she hopes Quebec will one day be a sovereign country.

But she says it will only happen when Quebecers are ready.

She told the Foreign Policy Association in New York that Quebec becoming sovereign won't change its relationship with the United States.

Marois says the province is open for investment and touts measures such as tax incentives to encourage business.

The premier, who has taken some ribbing for the quality of her English, spoke to the New York audience in its language.

Jean Charest spoke to the same group a year ago when he was premier and promoted his northern development plan.

I am impressed that the City of New York is willing to learn French for the honor of doing business with Quebec. I think they will be more interested in doing business with the new hydro suppliers to the east who speak English and will be very happy top supply them

Was this her first time out of Quebec? Right, I'm sure our southern friends are just lining up to invest in a province wanting separate from Canada? Ahhh, the thought of being a Queen must be tempting

Marois is a joke she can hardly speak English . How will she aa
Attract US business with her restrictive language laws red tape and franchisation of businesses and control of all busibness by the OQLF . Worst yet the extremely high taxes and school laws that don't allow Americans to go to English schools . No one will invest here and if Quebec separates it will be worst not only no investors but the ones here already and many residents will leave in a huge exodus . Dream on Pauline try and trick others but we can see right through you !!!

@Andre They most likely thought she was an act from the "Just for Laughs" festival.

@Andre yes she can continue to do the boogie man act for the many naive quebeckers and xenophobes will applaud this because it fits with their narrow minded view of the world. I wonder what they will do when the anglos are all gone? who will be the boogie man?

Marois has no business talking about soverenignty without a clear madate of the people of Quebec. Ater all her status at the moment is ''almost a premiere''. As a matter of fact NY has told her tha Quebecs credit card is maxed out. Whateer government i in power nowneeds to take the mesures necessary to get back to reality, not chace a dream.

I would be interesting to know what american think of her and of quebec in general. My point of view is the language squabbles don't much attention outside of this province and the americans will invest but find local people to run it. If they can make a buck they will invest and quebec will bend over backwards to give preference and special tax incentives. Don't worry though her government will continue the give another kind of special treatment to anglos!!

@chuck Well Chuck according to what I heard, they did not put up the Canadian flag when she was visiting but the Quebec flag. What a slap in the face to all Canadians on US' part. Humiliating too. She actually said that Quebec will be a sovern country and she welcomed US business. What a joke this clown and her followers are.

She(Marois) is very dangerous and the people of Quebec keep voting in these people and then wondering why we are going downhill....I agree with most of the people's comments about how no one will want to do business with Quebec with their strict laws and the language police it is not worth the hassle. As it is now for the English we have to shop in Ontario or the States to get English toys for our children. And if we want to get current items that need translation before being brought into Quebec we have to wait longer, so we go to other provinces to get them. Just go on websites for major brand stores and try to buy certain things, they will tell you that "they are not available to be shipped to Quebec" This is because of language, wow and they wonder why we cross border shop.

dear USA, there will be a cold day in hell, before that Marois woman will be able to destroy Canada. Did she impress the NY Business Establishment and Investors with her hate for English, the brutal taxation, corrupt municipal administrations, language police, powerful labour unions and a corrupt consruction industry, national debt, that she runs e minority government and will soon be booted out by her own electorate who only now start to realize how much they got screwed by voting for her. Quebec Money and Brainpower is fleeing this place, why would an american investor want tocome here.

@Rudolph S Do not be surprised my friend - I am telling you, this 'cold day in hell" is just around the corner from what I see. Unless the English Quebecers do something - get organized and SHOW UP to scream and shout against her nazi ideas, it will be sooner than we think. Sadly.

At least she was honest with them. What a waste of time if she thinks they will come here to invest she can forget that. Don't forget Americans are not big fans of the French.

Which will happen first? Quebec Independence or Quebec becoming the 51st US state.
    1. LMAO posted on 12/14/2012 12:52 PM
@CuriousGeorge Neither will happen because they can't stand on their own two feet with the debt level they have created by their destructive polices and the US wont tolerate their stupidity period.

Language issues aside Quebec does have a lot to offer:

Massive debt that would require heavy taxation on any corporation setting up.

An under-educated work force made up of students who think that everything is their right.

Labour corruption to encourage those who would build here.

Crumbling infra-structure which is not as important as adding language inspectors.
Oops the language issue again. Oh well

We can all ask ourselves the following question: where are the leaders? Where are the men or women of integrity who give a damn about us, and not the party? We have been wallowing in the mire for years and' yet, we say little and demonstrate even less. Let take to the streets, to the media and put ALL of our idiotic politicians on notice.
As Canadians we only have two things to fear: extreme cold and crooked politicians, and God help us, I have my fill; how about you, you can take more of this CRAP?
    1. Rudolph S posted on 12/14/2012 07:06 PM
@Brad Cooke Yes Brad, as an Alophone Quebecer and proud Canadian I have enough of this Crap too. We are used to the cold and we can protect ourselves quite effectively. However against some of our A^%#@#ole politicians we still have not been able to find a coat warm and strong enough to protect us. What does Marois think gives her the right to shoot off her grand geule and blabber away about a sovereign Quebec Nation, she is only a minority, she does by far not represent Canada and the majority of Canadians. Does she really think, that our business savy friends south of the border go for her BS, they know only too well in what a precarious economic s..t this province is with its massive national debt ,ideological hate for anything English and Bananarepublic style of government. . US investors know quebec history better than our dreamers in Quebec City and remember, that each time the PQ won an election it triggered a massive flight of capital and brainpower to other Canadian Provinces . When push comes to shoff there will be men and women of intelligence and integrity who will lead in the fight to protect us from the " Maroisie " even tough it appears right now that the classe politique in Ottawa does not give a damn about Quebec and its separatist agenda......

The Americans probably thought she was part of The Cirque De soliel and were waiting for her to do some backflips or something....The Americans don`t care if this jerkoff province separates or not, they can get anything they want now !!
