Montreal police report a total of 35 murders for 2012.

That's the same number as the year before.

"We had over the past year 18 homocides that were linked to the organized crime and 17 for other reasons, involving 10 with domestic violence", says police spokesman lan Lafrenniere.

Lafrenniere says only two organized-crime related murders have been solved, adding people being questioned after such crimes usually don't co-operate with auithorities.

On the other hand, says Lafrenniere, all 10 domestic violence murders were solved.

They latest yearly homocide figures are much lower than many years ago.

According to authorities, the annual murder figure 10 years ago was 40.

20 years ago, the number was 50.

Lafrenniere adds it's not clear why the figures have dropped over time.
