New hope for former Aveos workers
Things are looking up for former Aveos workers in Montreal. 1,800 were laid off last March.
Defence giant Lockheed Martin Canada says it plans to hire up to 100 former employees after purchasing what is left of the bankrupt aircraft maintenance firm, including its building near Trudeau Airport.
Lyne Ste-Marie is a former Aveos mechanic. She still hasn't found work so this is like a glimmer of hope.
"It certainly is good news, I am sure many people will be happy to go back to the jobs they used to have, and find work again."
Craig Allison, a former Aveos interior mechanic, says 100 jobs might not seem like a lot, but it still means work for many people who are in tight situations.
"We have a lot of guys who are sitting on the sidelines that are waiting for some good news. So this is going to help bring stability back into their lives."
The first of the employees expected to be on the job in April. No word on how the hiring process will work.
