Mother and child die in Joliette train accident

A 32-year-old woman and her 2-year-old son are dead after the SUV they were in was hit by a Via Rail passenger train just outside Joliette this morning.

The crash happened just before 10 a.m. at a level crossing in the community of Notre-Dame-des-Prairies.

There was no barrier at the crossing, and police believe thick fog in the area may have played a part in the accident.

None of the 21 passengers on the Jonquière-to-Senneterre train were hurt. The train had just made a stop at the station in Joliette.

Buses were put into service to transport the passengers to their destination.

there is nothing more tragical than the loss of a human being, especially when it comes down to an innocent child. It goes to show how our lives are fagile and no matter how careful we are, when our time is up...god will be waiting for us all. hopefully they didnt suffer. God bless them and their familly.
