Widespread, but brief power outage
Nearly 100,000 Quebecers lost their power at some point Thursday afternoon, but most of them got their power back within about an hour or so.
A problem with a major distribution line at the la Vérendrye power station in northern Quebec caused thousands of people, particularly in Montreal and western Quebec, to lose power right before 4 o'clock. The problem, though, was rectified quickly. By 4:35, only 40,000 customers were without power.
By 5 o'clock, that figure was at just 3,344.
There's no word on exactly how or why the line went down.
