C Diff killed more than 600 in 2010

With hospital emergency rooms running at well over capacity these days because of the seasonal flu and gastro, here's another reason to avoid hospitals.

The Public Health Institute of Quebec has found that 619-patients died as a result of contracting C.difficile last year

That's the highest number of deaths recorded in the past six years.

C difficle is a common and stubborn bacteria that is often present in hospitals.
It can cause severe diarrhea and inflammation of the colon.

The elderly and people receiving long-term care are most commonly affected.
