Mild weather won't shut down Snow Village

The Snow Village at Parc Jean-Drapeau doesn't officially open until next weekend, but visitors will be able to get a sneak peek at the attractions this weekend.

And even if the forecast calls for rainy, mild weather, some of the attractions will be open for business.

Guy Belanger, the man that runs the Snow Village, says the ice bar, ice restaurant, the heated dome, and part of the hotel will be open, and the only problem they're expecting with the mild weather, is they may have to hold off on building the rest of the village's attractions, such as the igloos, at least until it gets a bit colder.

"We use big tractors, and we don't want them to go down in the snow and bring up all the dirt from underneath," Belanger says. "So that's what we're afraid of."

He adds, the structures that are up now aren't at any risk of melting, pointing out that even after the village closed last March, the structures held up pretty well, even during a week-long run of daytime highs that ran above 20 degrees.
