EMSB tries to boost enrolment
With kindergarten registration underway or soon to start in public schools, parents have to make a choice - will it be English school or French school?
Many parents who are legally allowed to send their kids to English public school in the province are opting instead to put them in French school.
Recent numbers show that upwards of 50-thousand children who are eligible for an English education under Quebec's language laws are going to French school which is having a major impact on enrolment.
Michael Cohen is an official with the English Montreal School Board. He says the board will announce a new strategy today aimed at convincing those parents.
"It's a type of strategy that is long-needed to get the parents who really want to be convinced that their kids will get a strong French education in the English system. This may be the tool that will help make their decision easier."
This morning's news conference will be conducted entirely in French. Special guest of honour will be Paul Gerin-Lajoie, the province's first Minister of Education.
