A website to draw parents to EMSB

The English Montreal School Board has come out with a new strategy to try to convince parents who have a choice to send their children to English school.

That strategy is a new, French only website.

EMSB chairman Angela Mancini says the goal of the website, is to let parents know what they have to offer.

"It's a question of letting them know what is out there. When they come onto our site we want to show them what we have to offer in terms of French immersion, and also showcase the success of our students."

The website www.noussommesbilingues.ca features video clips of students, teachers, and former students speaking flawless French. Mancini says their promise is students who graduate from the EMSB will be bilingual.

"The results are there. Our students are graduating from high school and writing the same French exams as the French sector, and sometimes performing even better than the French system."

Parent Jessica King had the choice but opted for the English system, even though her husband is French-speaking.

"My son is in grade 2, and my daughter is in grade 4 now," King says, "she is fully bilingual and she is only 9."

I can't see them having much luck with their campaign , the French school system is better and the kid's emerge perfectly bilingual . The English school board is passe' .

I completely disagree with Umaga. In fact, in my day-to-day life I see the exact opposite. I see students graduating out the the EMSB's French Immersion programs perfectly bilingual but not the ones who come out of the French system. Many of them even go on to study in French university. I did just that and I was in the English stream program. At the high school level, the French public schools are so bad that anyone who can afford it, sends their children to private schools.
