West end post offices to close?

There are hints that Canada Post may soon shut down as many as three post offices in Montreal's west end.

Canada Post will be spending the next month consulting locals about the future of post offices located in Westmount (4895 Sherbrooke St. W.), N.D.G. (5751 Sherbrooke St. W.), and Snowdon (4944 Decarie Blvd.). Canada Post spokeswoman Geneviève Latour suggests there are many smaller postal outlets in nearby retail outlets such as drugstores that would serve the public's needs just as well.

"We regularly review the network, and we consider for now our customers would be well served by many, many post offices located a short distance from these three," says Canada Post spokeswoman Geneviève Latour.

The consultation process will continue until Feb. 15. Customers can express their concerns about the potential closures on Canada Post's web site, or write Canada Post at Retail Feedback, 2701 Riverside Drive, suite N1020, Ottawa Ontario, K1A 0B1.

How ironic that these postal offices which may shut down just happen to be in predominantly english areas.
