Police in Laval say they've put the screws to a small-time identity theft operation that cloned credit cards and manufactured counterfeit cash.

Three men are under arrest.

Police in both Laval and Montreal have been keeping an eye on the group since October. And this past Tuesday, they arrested one of the alleged fraudsters.

A search of his apartment in Laval's Laval-des-Rapides neighborhood turned up two other suspects, and what police are calling a 'fraud laboratory', with machines to make debit, credit, and other types of ID cards, as well as about 1500 blank plastic cards, thousands of dollars' worth of counterfeit Canadian and U.S. money, as well as stolen cards of all kinds, which the thieves would use to steal people's identities.

Police believe the three men in custody have ties to street gangs.
