Time to talk constitution, says Couillard
Quebecers what its values are and ask for recognition in the constitution, Philippe Couillard said in this Sunday's second PLQ leadership debate.
The three candidates hashed out their ideas for cleaning up politics, managing the tax burden, and positioning Quebec within Canada.
When the other two men in the running, Pierre Moreau and Raymond Bachand, were unenthusiastic about re-opening constitutional talks, Couillard said its a festering issue that needs to be dwelt with.
"We can't leave this circle unclosed," he said. "We want to have the certainty that within Canada, we have an action of all Canadians that recognizes the specific nature of Quebec."
Couillard says Quebec needs to decide for itself what makes stand apart. "Then, in the rest of Canada, when they ask us 'what do you mean by specific?' we'll be able to give them an answer that Quebec agrees on," says Couillard.
