Black History Month starting up
Black History Month gets underway February 1st with a slew of events across the city.
This year, Black History Month celebrates 22 years and is drawing its theme from a very famous speech delivered 50 years ago today.
The theme is, "It's time" inspired by the words spoken by Martin Luther King Jr. in his "I have a dream" speech.
Michael Farkas, president of the round table for Black History Month, says the focus this year is on inclusion.
"It's all entangled with the inauguration of Barack Obama, so it is very special this year, but what will stand out this year is definitely Martin Luther King's 'I have a dream.""
There are more than 800 activities planned throughout the month of February, most of them here in Montreal, but one of the highlights will be a Martin Luther King exhibit at Place des Arts from the 5th to the 18th.
