VIDEO: Explosion, fire wipe out RDP home
An explosion and fire ripped through a home in a quiet neighborhood in Rivière-des-Prairies this morning.
The fire broke out sometime after 11 o'clock at 12 259 Marie-Anne-Tison St., quickly and completely engulfed the two-storey house.
Fire chief of operations Martin Farmer said the force of the apparent explosion was so intense that the front door was found across the street in the ritzy new housing development and other parts of the house were scattered on the road.
"When firefighters arrived, the roof was no longer there. THe rest of the house was one big ball of fire," Farmer said.
Farmer said no one was home at the time. The two houses on either side were evacuated for safety precautions, with three people in one home getting out safely. Farmer said they don't know for now what caused the blast and fire.
Montreal police say they're investigating after receiving calls from people reporting they heard an explosion and saw three people fleeing the scene. There was also a reported break-in at the home.
