UPDATED:

Police report a 34-year old man's been shot in the Duvernay section of Laval.

He's said to be in stable condition.

The man is the suspect in a double-slashing in an altercation this afternoon at an apartment on Rose De Lima involving two men, including an 85-year old.

The victim is said tobe in critical condition.

The condition of the other victim, 40-years old, is described as stable.

Authorities say the suspect, said to have mental problems, was holding a rifle and pointed it at police when he was shot.

Provincial police have taken over the investigation from Laval counterparts at the request of the Public Security minister.
