Quarry search called off due to high winds

The strong winds and quickly falling temperatures have once again forced rescue workers in l'Épiphanie to call off the search for the man and woman who've been missing since Tuesday morning following a landslide.

The search had been called off overnight due to heavy rain, and renewed worries of more landslides.

The high winds Thursday have grounded the SQ rescue helicopter, and have also rendered the new, bigger crane that they managed to set up this morning on a large platform inoperable.

Officials believe the search won't resume until Friday morning, when the winds are expected to die down.

Crews and equipment have been mobilizing since the collapse at the Maskimo quarry on Tuesday buried two trucks and a mechanical shovel.

The operator of the shovel survived.
