Lachine hospital petition at 6,000 names and counting

In two weeks, a petition launched to keep the Lachine Hospital under the management of the MUHC has gathered more than 6,000 signatures and counting.

And the Committee to Save the Lachine Hospital of the MUHC is planning to blitz the neighborhood in the coming days to reach its goal of 10,000.

Lachine mayor Claude Dauphin is confident that the public is behind him in his efforts to get the PQ government to reverse itself on their decision to relieve the MUHC of its management of the Lachine Hospital.

"Now we're planning in the next couple of days to do some door-to-door," he says. "What is important for us is to mobilize our population from Lachine and Dorval, and to make sure that we stay within the McGill family."

Dauphin adds he's confident the movement will force the PQ's hand in the end.

"We are very confident to win our cause, because we're talking about health, it's a number one priority for our citizens."

Aside from keeping the hospital under MUHC jurisdiction, the petition is also demanding the government follow through on its promise to invest $63 million for modernization and expansion of the hospital.
