City destroys alley rinks

Some families in the Villeray district are upset after city workers destroyed two back alley skating rinks used by neighbourhood kids for shinny hockey.

The workers scattered gravel on the rinks the families had so carefully watered and tended.

The city says it acted after receiving complaints about the alley rinks from neighbours.

The families say it doesn't make sense to discourage physical activity in this way - so they got out their hoses and recreated the rinks.  They're calling on their city councillors to take up their cause.

IF the rinks block access to emergency vehicles, then i side with the city.

Simple reason. The City blue collar people are unionized and they are not incharge of this rink, so they scrapped it. There is no complaint from anyone other the union. I say get the city pweople accounatble and leave the public alone. We pay our taxes and it doesn't get done. For shame.
