Tobacco seized at border
Canada Border Service Agency officers are reporting the seizure of a large quantity of contraband tobacco at the Saint-Bernard-de-Lacolle border crossing.
In a news release the CBSA says 8,250 kilograms of loose tobacco was discovered January 31st in a truck that had been loaded with fruits and vegetables.
"Seizures like these are a clear sign that our efforts to prevent crime and keep illegal contraband off of our streets are working," said Benoit Chiquette, CBSA Regional Director General for Quebec. "I applaud the CBSA officers involved in this significant contraband tobacco seizure."
The tobacco is valued at about a million dollars.
