Parents warned about stranger approaching kids
Police in the Deux-Montagnes area are looking for a woman in her 50s who they say has been approaching children in a car and offering them rides.
They've also issued a warning to parents, after a couple of recent incidents.
Just after 8 o'clock on Monday, Jan. 28, a 10-year-old girl was approached on Boulevard des Pins in Ste-Marthe sur le Lac. Police say the woman apparently approached the youngster in a gray SUV, offering to drive her to school.
And this past Monday morning, a similar thing happened outside the Ecole des Lucioles, also in Ste-Marthe sur le Lac. A 12-year-old girl was approached by a woman, again driving a grey SUV.
In both cases, the children refused the rides.
The woman they're looking for is French-speaking, with dark reddish-brown curly hair. Police in Deux-Montagnes suggest the woman might not have any evil intent; that she may genuinely want to take kids in out of the cold and bring them to school.
Police, however, strongly discourage this kind of Good Samaritanism, and continue to urge children not to get into vehicles with strangers.
Anyone with information on the woman they're looking for is being asked to phone Deux-Montagnes regional police at 450-473-4686.
