Families in Montreal and the south shore will be big beneficiaries from the next batch of daycare spaces opening up over the course of the next three years.

The 15 thousand 7-dollar-a-day spaces had been announced last fall. Today, the Family minister launched a call for tender and gave more details on how the spots will be spread around.

"Families can also be pleased since all regions of Quebec will be getting additional spaces," says minister Nicole Leger.

Montreal and south shore will get a third of the latest wave of spaces. More than two handstand spots will open up in Montreal, and another 3, 122 spaces in the Montérégie.

non-profit

On top of this, 85% will be awarded to non-profit CPEs. Private non-subsidized daycare owners say they will lose clients, but the minister says her plan will satisfy demand.

Damn, I hope my child isn't in one of those two handstand spots.

@Jude If the present daycare spots were restricted to working parents only there would be no need for any new daycare spots. This is another gross waste of public money. This money should have been spent to create jobs.

@Jude Well, the handstand spots will likely make the kids have strong upper bodies.
