Group wants to keep kids active in school
A committee of experts is trying to get kids more active.
The Quebec Coalition on Weight Problems says schools should impose a minimum amount of time for physical education in schools.
Experts discussed five recommendations at a conference that include promoting extracurricular physical activities, integrating physical activity into other classes, and more recess time.
The Coalition's Sylvie Pellerin says it's important to keep kids active.
"Only 7 percent of Canadian youths are active enough, so it's clearly a role for schools to give some opportunities for kids to be more active," Pellerin says.
In her inaugural speech last fall, Premier Pauline Marois, stated that she had wanted Quebecers to become one of the fittest of the world in the next 10 years.
