Quebec gained 542 doctors in 2012, according to the latest statistics released Monday by the Quebec College of Physicians.

The new blood brings the total number of active doctors in Quebec to 19,400, while there are also another 2,000 retired doctors.

Over half of those doctors, 51.6 percent to be precise, are specialists, while 46.5 percent are family physicians.

The others doctors are either here on a France-Quebec exchange or are a fellowship.

The president of the Federation of General Practitioners of Quebec, Dr. Louis Godin, welcomed the increase in the number of family physicians while stressing that there is still a long way to go to reach the ratio 50-50 between general practitioners and specialists.

How many doctors were assigned to the cities of St. Lazare and Hudson. I had a Gp he quit because he couldn't stand the government so I had to go private and my gyno just went private... Are the private doctors included in a healthcare system that is for free healthcare... We worked here all our lives and contributed to a healthcare system which is a farce... Where have our monies gone too... We should have a class action and sue the government for services not rendered..
