Snowbirds now require international driver's licence in Florida
UPDATE: Enforcement to be deferred
If you are planning to drive in Florida during spring break this year, you'll need an International Driver Permit.
A new law came into effect January 1st requiring all foreign motorists in the state to obtain an IDP and it's causing some panic among Quebecers in Florida. Many are just learning about the new rules today.
State officials say the legislation was designed to help police officers interpret foreign language licenses, and the Florida Highway Safety Department is looking for amendments to exempt Canadians but it is not clear if Quebec driver's licenses would be included because they are written in French.
Any amendments that are accepted would only come into effect in July.
IDP's can be obtained at CAA-Quebec
