Repentigny firefighters heroes in DR
Two firefighters from Repentigny are being hailed as "the heroes in speedos" after they interrupted their beach vacation to save a life.
Sylvain Durocher and Yannick Tremblay have told the Journal de Montreal that they were relaxing in a beachside club in the Dominican Republic when a fierce fire erupted in the restaurant's kitchen.
They tried to direct an evacuation but the owner insisted that everyone pay their bills before fleeing the flames. Then he insisted on trying to fight the fire himself. The two Quebecers re-entered the building to help but soon discovered the intense fire was beginning to spread. They ended up having to drag the owner out - just moments before a tremendous explosion.
It took local firefighters 40 minutes to arrive and by that time, the flames had jumped to a neighbouring hotel. The club and restaurant burned down and about 15 hotel suites were damaged.
