More money for universities
Marois' tune is changing on funding universities, again.
Friday, she announced at a business luncheon that the future of the province lies in natural resources, electric public transit and post-secondary institutions.
"We are looking at an increase of 3.3 percent in 2014, 8.5 percent in 2015 and come 2018, investments from the government for universities will be $800 million more than this year," Marois said in a speech. "I repeat and I promise - come 2018, our universities will have $800 million more per year."
Just last week, she was announcing cuts to university research grants and faced a harsh wave of criticism.
"Quebec will continue to be the place in North America where post-secondary education is the most accessible," she said. "Our youth will continue to be students with the less debt on the continent."
Marois also said the government will continue to finance universities adequately.
