AMT considering parking fees at Montmorency

Free parking at the Montmorency metro station in Laval may soon be a distant memory.

The  Metropolitan Transportation Agency is considering introducing parking fees for 563-spaces that are currently offered free to commuters.

This morning's Journal de Montreal says they have confirmation from transit officials, but are not considering imposing fees any time soon.

South Shore commuters already pay for their parking.

Fees at the Longueuil station range from $5.75 to $8.50 a day.
Free parking is allowed for the first 15 minutes.

For AMT to charge parking is ridiculous. This is no way to encourage the use of public transportation. Charging ~$160 per month just to park, plus the cost of a monthly pass, and taking into consideration that the average trips will take 3 times longer than they would by car. It's just too inconvenient.
Keep the parking free if you want people to use public transportation. Is not like people are just going there to park..I'd say 99.9% of cars parked there are customers.
What's next, charging to park at the shopping mall?

where exactly are these 563 spaces reserved for commuters? i've yet to come across a site that can hold that much, unless they're including the shopping centers that are near by (that will often get your car towed for parking there for a long period of time)
