End to cap on traffic fines for minors?

Quebec's Round Table on Road Safety thinks the province should lift the cap on fines for drivers under the age of 18.

As it stands, minors who commit driving infractions are fined no more than one hundred dollars no matter how serious the offense.

The Round Table says that doesn't make sense when an adult can be hit with a fine of up to two-thousand dollars for transgressions such as excessive speeding.

It also points out that while drivers under the age of 24 hold just ten percent of permits, they get 45-percent of the tickets for speeding and dangerous driving.

The Round Table will discuss the proposal again next week before presenting it to the provincial government.
