15-640 Interchange costs skyrocketing
Costs for the the rebuild of the interchange linking Highway 640 to the Laurentian Autoroute are skyrocketing.
When it was originally proposed in 2006, Transport Quebec had the estimate at about $95 million.
Today, the estimate has soared to $190 million and the completion date has been pushed back to the end of 2014.
The work was supposed to have been finished last year.
Ministry officials say most of the delays were caused by errors in assessing the soil in the area which resulted in large construction delays.
The interchange is used by about a quarter-million motorists every day.
