Milioto ends Charbonneau Commision testimony

A former construction boss dubbed ``Mr. Sidewalk'' wrapped up his testimony at Quebec's corruption inquiry by denying almost everything said about him.

Nicolo Milioto had been described by witnesses as a middleman who helped exchange cash between the Mafia, local political parties and the construction world.

But the 64-year-old ended his fourth and final day on the witness stand with a steady stream of denials. He became particularly livid when he addressed the testimony of a
previous witness who claimed Milioto referred to himself as ``Mr. Sidewalk.''

Over the past four days, Milioto has denied even being aware of the existence of the Mafia -- let alone the notion that he was in league with organized crime.

The inquiry is looking into allegations of corruption in the awarding of public construction contracts.
