Habs welcome back Michael Ryder; trade Erik Cole

Posted By: CJAD · 2/26/2013 6:58:00 PM

Michael Ryder is a Hab once again.

The Montreal Canadiens acquired Ryder and a third-round draft pick in 2013 from Dallas for forward Erik Cole.

Ryder had a career-high 35 goals for the Stars last season, along with 27 assists. He has six goals and eight assists in 19 games so far this year.

Ryder was drafted in the eighth round by Montreal in 1998. The native of Bonavista, N.L., had a career-high 63 points for the Habs in 2003-04. In 650 career games, Ryder has 203 goals and 207 assists.

Cole signed a four-year deal with the Canadiens on July 1, 2011, after spending nine seasons with Carolina and one with Edmonton.

He had 35 goals and 26 assists for the Canadiens last season, but managed just six points in 19 game so far this year.

Hmm if this is such a great trade why did Dallas let Ryder go. There stats are almost identical except the fact that Cole is way more physical. Looks like a pointless trade other than making cap room for next year. Nothing upsets a team more than losing a popular player so lets hope this dopes not come back to bite the Habs.

Daingeaut , , Brisebois in the office , Therrien behind the bench , Boo-Boo Bouillon , and now Ryder . What's next Gionta for Koivu ?
This Mickey Mouse franchise is the laughing stock of the league .
To all you " faithful " who will point out that they're in first place , get back to me in April when reality sets in .

@Umaga Bergevin knows exactly what he's doing. Cole wasn't happy this year with Therrien's system. Ryder plus a 3rd round pick is a great business move. Cap space is a very important these days. That's why Bergevin is the GM and you're not!

@Umaga Umaga, and where will your leafs be in April? Just because they have hammered the habs so far this year does not make a Stanley cup parade. Were you even alive the last time that happened?

Why was Ryder traded the first time? Something about being a very good customer at some downtown watering holes. Let's hope he has changed.
