Schwartz's smoked meat now at IGA stores

You don't have to go to the main to enjoy a Schwartz's smoked meat.

The highly popular smoked meat is now available at IGA stores.

"We decided that it was a good idea to be able to create a product that we would be able to serve to customers all around the province of Quebec", said co-owner Eric Sara to CJAD's Barry Morgan Thursday afternoon.

Sara adds they've worked very hard to try to create a product that'll taste the same as what's sold at the restaurant.

He also says most IGA stores should now carry the smoked meat.

This is a sad, sad day. Schwartz's is a symbol. It has a specialness to it that can never, ever be replicated and that caché should be preserved. You wanna know what Schwartz is all about? You wanna know what makes it so special? You need to go sit in the crowded restaurant, on those greasy chairs and drink out of the glasses that are older than I am. There ain't nothing special about going to an IGA and buying pre-packaged smoked meat.

In addition, the meat isn't even prepared at Schwartz itself. Much of the taste comes from the curing and preparing the meat on premises. The room where the meat is stored has been seasoned for decades with the wonderful aroma of all the spices. Now, it will be produced in some big factory focused on meeting shipping requirements.

and that's the end of that.

Hopefully they don't change the way the store funtions. ie will now be supplied by the same IGA smokemeat.

Bad move. Distribution means that they need to up the production. Since the quality of the smoked meat at Schwartz relies on it being done in a limited area, they always claim it's the schmutz in the smoke house that gives it its flavour they can not reproduce it on a large scale. Bad Celine, bad,bad Celine.

If it's not broken don't fix it. Greed wins over common sense. By, by Schwartz's.

Céline Dion’s husband owns a slice of Schwartz’s deli. Maybe he owns part of IGA.

Celine can sing the theme song of the Titanic as Schwartz's sinks !!!!!!!!!

*haughtily* Well, I ardently pray that the French "viande fumée" is in larger letters than the English "smoked meat". Our pal Pauline might have a hairy if it isn't.

Celine must need the money. Schwartez is overrated anyway, I think I buy Lister's

Bad idea, I tried the taste is not even close. I can see this hurting business in the long run. I tried it and will simply go back to St Laurent. Someone who tries Schwartz's ( the packed smoke meat ) will spread the word giving Schwartz's a bad name.

I have just tried this smoked meat bought at IGA :-( Not even close to the original, plus the texture look like any other pouch of pastrami!!!!

Plus, it is veryyyyy salted almost 1100mg per pouch (125gr.) Left me with a bad taste in the mouth, At 9.99$ for 4 pouch it is a rip-off, believe me, i am a Schwartz's customer for a long time.

Please don't buy that crap! And still have a good day ;-)

I have already purchased the product. I am a smoked meat lover from way back, with Schwartz at the very top. The prepackaged product is a sad attempt at substitution. It lacks the signature flavour, texture and aftertaste. This will not help the brand. In fact ,my disappointment is now leading me to question the new owners respect or lack of, of the tradition. I atually bought a second box to give it another go, but to no avail. So, for this product, thanks but no thanks.
