Arthur Porter hopes to return one day
The man wanted by the province's anti-corruption squad on fraud charges has spoken to La Presse.
Arthur Porter agreed to be interviewed and photographed at his home in the Bahamas to prove that he is fighting cancer and can't travel back to Canada to face the charges.
A picture shows him looking very sick, bald, much thinner, and with an oxygen tube running to his nose.
Porter says he hopes to return to Montreal one day to clear the air and he maintains that the tendering process for the superhospital project was not rigged.
"Everyone is saying that somehow the McGill hospital bid was rigged. That bid was not rigged and could not have been rigged."
Porter also says that he intends on paying back the debts he owes to the National bank and McGill University over unpaid loans.
He tells the reporters that he still very proud of the legacy he left behind in Montreal which is the superhospital. He says it will forever change the face of medicine.
