Applebaum denies he's under investigation

Montreal Mayor Michael Applebaum denies any wrongdoing in connection with a controversial land transaction in his former borough.

Radio Canada says the former borough mayor of Cote-des-Neiges-NDG and current mayor of Montreal is under investigation over a land transaction in NDG.

But the mayor insists there is no such investigation.

According to Radio Canada, the value of the land in question, near the corner of Decarie and Cote-St-Luc Road, exploded following a series of zoning changes that saw the price go from 50-thousand dollars to 4.5-million, with NDG businessman Lee Lalli said to have pocketted the profits.

Applebaum doesn't deny having met Lalli on several occasions, explaining that meeting with developers is part of a mayor's job.

But he insists he never gave anyone any inside information about plans for the land.
